Cognitive Behavior Therapy

Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) & Behavior Therapy (BT) services are appropriate for individuals between 17 and 65 years of age who have autism spectrum disorder with mental health conditions such as anxiety and depression. CBT and BT will teach you about your autism and mental health conditions and the strategies that you can use to manage these conditions. For adolescents who participate in CBT/BT, your parent(s) is/are encouraged to be a part of your treatment so they can assist you with using your newly learned skills at home and in the community. For adults who participate in CBT/BT, a caregiver or partner is encouraged to be a part of your treatment so he/she can assist you with using your newly learned skills at home and in the community.

Short-term Parent/Caregiver Education & Collaborative Planning & Problem-Solving

Short-term Parent/Caregiver Education & Collaborative Planning & Problem-Solving services are appropriate for parents of adolescents, between 17 and 24 years of age with autism spectrum disorder, who have a specific concern about their teen’s emotions and/or behavior. A problem-focused assessment pinpoints the factors that contribute to the concern, which leads to the development of a targeted intervention plan that uses evidence-based strategies in autism spectrum disorder (with/without mental health conditions). Education and training are provided to assist you in implementing the intervention plan at home. Typically 8-12 sessions are needed.

Short-Term Transition Support & Planning

Short-Term Transition Support & Planning is appropriate for female teenagers, between 17 to 24 years of age, who have autism spectrum disorder (with/without mental health conditions) and who might be feeling anxious or distressed about the transition out of high school, OR who have graduated and are anxious or distressed because they are unsure about what they want to do as young adults. This service includes an assessment of the teen’s social, emotional, and behavioral readiness and his/her goals/dreams for life after high school or young adulthood. Treatment includes teen and parent education on readiness levels, identification and planning of supports/interventions for areas of need, and anxiety/stress management training for transition- related distress. Typically, 8-12 sessions are needed.
